Horse
The Zangersheide breed of horse is actually a warmblood registry established in Belgium in 1992, and not a separate breed. The Zangersheide Stud Farm established the registry specifically to identify the best warmblood showjumpers, and to use the registry to further imporve warmblood breeding specifically for show jumping. The Zangersheide Stud farm was established in the 1970s, with the Registry the creation of the farm's founder, Léon Melchior. Zangersheide horses are easily recognized by the 'Z' suffix to their registered names, although horses accepted into the stud book are not required to add the suffix. Zangersheide horses have been very successful in showjumping cometitions and on the stud farm, with notable horses such as the Olympian Alme Z bringing recognition to the Zabgersheide.
