Dog

Pronunciation:
yawrk-ee--ruhs-uhl
Breed Description:

The Yorkie Russell breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Yorkshire Terrier with the Jack Russell Terrier.  Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks and temperament of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next.  Generally, the Yorkie Russell will have qualities of both parents.  They are a toy to small sized breed of dog with a slightly longer body than they are tall. They usually have the more delicate look of the Yorkshire Terrier but they have the lean and athletic build of the Jack Russell Terrier.  The head is usually slightly flat with a small delicate muzzle and large erect ears.  The tail is usually medium in length and is commonly docked.

The coat is usually medium in length with a slightly wiry texture and a soft, short undercoat.  They can be found in any of the colors of their parent breeds but are commonly found in a white or cream color.

Temperament:
The Yorkie Russell breed of dog is a designer breed and because of this, their temperament can vary greatly. However, they are known for being very energetic and intelligent. This is a breed that loves being on the go and they love it even more when they are on the go with their family. The Yorkie Russell is an affectionate breed and they do well with children of all ages. They are also good with other dogs but they may chase smaller household pets.

Living Conditions:
The Yorkie Russell breed of dog can do very well in apartments if they are properly exercised. The ideal is a home with a fenced yard so the Yorkie Russell can burn off some of his energy.
Exercise:
The Yorkie Russell breed of dog has a surprising amount of energy, regardless of the parent they take after and you should expect to give him between 30 to 45 minutes of exercise each day. They should be exercised on leash or in a secure area since the breed can be prone to running off after something they find interesting, especially if they take on the temperament of their Jack Russell Terrier parent. Without proper exercise, the Yorkie Russell can become very destructive.
