Dog

Pronunciation:
wool-a-myoot
Breed Description:

The Wolamute breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Alaskan Malamute with a Wolf or Wolf Hybrid.  Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next.  Generally, the Wolamute will have qualities of both parents and can be a medium to large sized breed of dog that should be compact and well-proportioned.  The head should be wedge shaped with the a definite stop between the muzzle and the skull. The body should be strong and robust with an athletic build, giving the appearance of a well-balanced dog. The ears should be triangular and they should be held erect on the top of the head.  The tail should be long, carried low and should have a slight curve at the end. The overall appearance should be that of a wolf with the thickness of an Alaskan Malamute.

The coat of the Wolamute is medium to long in length and should consist of two coats, the soft, dense undercoat and the longer top coat.  The top coat should have a harsh texture to it and it should be slightly thicker around the neck and shoulders and on the tail.  The breed can be found in any color that is commonly found in the Alaskan Malamute including black, white, gray, sable, red, brown, and silver either as a solid color or with the Alaskan Malamute markings with white on the face, head, legs, belly and feet.

Temperament:
The Wolamute breed of dog is a designer breed and because of this, their temperament can vary greatly. However, that being said, it is important to point out that Wolamute are often described as being very wolf like in temperament. They are usually very independent and tend to have an alpha personality. They do need a strong owner who can give firm rules and training and they should be trained with positive reinforcement instead of harsh correction. The breed still has a very wild streak in them so expect them to roam, mark, hunt and even roll in everything. They are not the best breed for children and they can be very skittish dogs.
Height:
The average height of a Wolamute is between 24 to 29 inches.
Weight:
The average weight of a Wolamute is between 60 to 140 pounds.
Health Problems:
The Wolamute breed of dog has no known health problems, however, is important to research the Alaskan Malamute and to also research Wolf Hybrids to be aware of any potential health problems your dog could be at risk for.
Living Conditions:
The Wolamute breed of dog is better suited to homes with a large fenced yard since they generally have a fair amount of energy. The breed is known for wandering so it is important to have a secure fence that they can neither dig under or climb over.
Exercise:
The Wolamute breed of dog is a large sized breed that should receive a fair amount of exercise. Both of the parent breeds are active so expect to give your Wolamute about 60 minutes of exercise each day and make sure that you offer them a large amount of intellectual stimulation as well.
Life Expectancy:
12 to 15 years
Grooming:
The Wolamute breed of dog is a very easy breed to groom and you should only expect to brush the coat about once per week, however, you will need to brush it two or three times a week during shedding periods. In addition, if you live in warmer climates, your grooming needs may increase up to 4 or 5 times a week. They do not need a bath on a regular basis and can go most of the year with only one or two. Ears should be cleaned on a regular basis and the nails should be clipped once or twice a month, but other than that, nothing more really needs to be done.
Origin:
The Wolamute breed of dog is a designer `hybrid`breed that has become popular over the last decade or so. There is no actual origin for the breed and if you are interested in learning more about the Wolamute, it is important to read up on both the Alaskan Malamute and Wolf Hybrids.
