Origin:
The White English Bulldog breed of dog has a history that is not as clear as other breeds. While we do know that the breed was developed in the 16th or 17th century, we are unsure what breeds went into the creation of the White English Bulldog, although several types of mastiff breeds are believed to be a contributing factor. What we do know is that the White English Bulldog was commonly known as a plantation dog and was developed in Georgia and Northern Florida as both a working and hunting dog. Although the breed was quite popular for a large period of time, they eventually fell out of use and faced extinction. In fact, the breed became so obscure that they were almost forgotten until the 1990's when efforts began to reestablish the breed. Today the White English Bulldog is still a rare breed and while they are not recognized by the AKC, they are recognized by a number of registries.
