Breed Description: 

The Welsh Springer Spaniel breed of dog is an athletic and sturdy dog that should be medium in size and graceful. This is a dog that should be function and beauty combined and they should never be too course or too refined. The head should be slightly rounded with long ears that hang down the side of the head. The tail should be long and is commonly docked. The top line of the Welsh Springer Spaniel should be level and they should be slightly longer than they are tall.

The coat of the Welsh Springer Spaniel should be soft and lightly wavy, although straight is allowed, however, curly hair is not allowed by the breed standard. The hair should be medium in length and it should lay flat on the dog. There should be feathering on the belly, chest, ears, back of legs and tail. They can only be found in one color combination and that is white with red. The red can either be markings or there can be some ticking allowed.

Temperament: 
The Welsh Springer Spaniel breed of dog is known as a very intelligent and happy breed that can be a joy to be around. They are usually a very affectionate dog that is gentle with children and does well wiht children of all ages. They generally like everyone but they can be very protective of their family so may seem reserved with strangers. The breed can be quite sensitive and can become very timid if they are mistreated. The Welsh Springer Spaniel is usually very good with other dogs and pets.
Height: 
The average height for a Welsh Springer Spaniel is between 17 to 18 inches for a female and 18 to 19 inches for a male.
Weight: 
The average weight for a Welsh Springer Spaniel is between 35 to 40 pounds for a female and 40 to 45 pounds for a male.
Health Problems: 
The Welsh Springer Spaniel breed of dog is considered to be a healthy breed, however, they can be prone to several health problems including Epilepsy, Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Glaucoma, Cataracts, Hip Dysplasia, Ear Infections, Hypothyroidism and Entropion.
Living Conditions: 
The Welsh Springer Spaniel breed of dog can do well in apartments if they have proper exercise, however, the ideal home is one with a large, fenced yard. In addition, they should not be outdoor dogs since they thrive when they are with their owners.
Exercise: 
The Welsh Springer Spaniel breed of dog is an active breed and they do require a lot of exercise in a day. Expect to give them between 30 to 60 minutes of exercise each day. If they are not properly exercised, they can become bored and destructive.

12 to 15 years
Grooming: 
The Welsh Springer Spaniel breed of dog is an easy breed to groom, despite its coat. Generally, they should be brushed once a week, although to keep the hair free of dirt, it is recommended that you brush them two or three times a week. The Welsh Springer Spaniel breed of dog is a breed of hunting dog that was developed in Britain and while their most recently linked as descendants of the Land Spaniel, the breed can actually trace its heritage more than 3000 years. The breed was a popular hunting dog up until the early 1800's but with the development of the English Springer Spaniel, the breed fell out of favor and was almost wiped out due to lack of interest. Thankfully, the breed was revived in the 1950's and while they are still rare, more people are realizing the beauty of this breed.
