Breed Description:
The Vyatka breed of horse is a very rare Russian pony breed, named for the region of western Russia where it originated. Developed from native breeds such as the Tarpan crossed with breeds such as the Polish Konik, the Vytaka is medium sized but sturdy and heavy set pony, with an excellent temperament. the Vyatks comes in all solid colors except grey, with a long and thick mane and tail. The Vyatka commonly has a dorsal stripe and zebra stripe markingson its legs. White markings are rare and discouraged.

Origin:
The Vyatka breed of horse has uncertain origins, but it is believed to descend from native Russian breeds such as the Taipan, crossed with the Russian trotter and draft breeds. Later influences include Polish Koniks and the Klepper breed. the breed was virtually extinct in the early 1900s, but efforts have been made to re-establish the Vyatka. Even so, there are estimated to be less than 3,000 Vyatka in existence today, and no official registry or stud book.
