The breed was created by crossing the English Bulldog, Staffordshire Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Bulldog, and the Boston Terrier. It is believed that several other breeds went into the creation of the Vanguard Bulldog but over the years, efforts have been made only to breed Vanguard Bulldog to Vanguard Bulldog to create a breed type.
