Breed Description: 

The Tyroler Bracke breed of dog is a medium sized breed that should be robust and have an athletic build that is common in hunting breeds. The body should be well-balanced with a level top line and a slightly longer than tall build. The head should be broad and slightly large, although still in proportion to the body. The ears should be medium in length and should hang down the side of the head. The tail should be long and should taper to a point.

The coat of the Tyroler Bracke should be short and thick. It should be hard to the touch and be bristly in appearance. The Tyroler Bracke can be found in either red or black and tan, however, both coat colors can have white markings.

Temperament: 
The Tyroler Bracke breed of dog is a steadfast breed of dog that is known for being very energetic and outgoing. This is a breed that loves to work and they need something to do or they can become bored. The breed is usually affectionate and loyal to their family but they are not a breed that will just roll over and listen. The Tyroler Bracke needs firm training and consistent rules so they are not recommended for new or timid owners. The breed can do well with children and usually does well with other dogs, however, they do need to be properly socialized to accept other small pets.

The average height for the Tyroler Bracke is between 16 to 19 inches.
Weight: 
The average weight for the Tyroler Bracke is between 33 to 48 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Tyroler Bracke breed of dog is considered to be a hardy breed of dog with few known health problems.
Living Conditions: 
The Tyroler Bracke breed of dog is not recommended for apartments. This is a hunting breed and does much better in a home with a large yard or acreage.
Exercise: 
The Tyroler Bracke breed of dog is an active breed that needs at least 60 minutes of exercise each day. They love being out and working so it is important to offer them a variety of activities.

10 to 14 years
Grooming: 
The Tyroler Bracke breed of dog should be brushed once per week to remove any dead hair but outside of that, they are a very easy dog to groom. Special care should be given to the ears, since they can be prone to ear infections and the hair under the ears and around the feet should be trimmed on a regular basis. Baths should only be given when it is absolutely necessary and the breed can go several months between baths.
Origin: 
The Tyroler Bracke breed of dog is believed to be an old breed that was descended from Celtic Hounds. They were primarily used for hunting and specialized in hunting foxes, hares and other small game. The breed was a favorite for Emperor Maximilian I and was developed in Austria. The breed was officially recognized in 1908, however, it has remained an uncommon breed to this day.
