Dog

Pronunciation:
tawr-kee
Breed Description:

The Torkie breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Yorkshire Terrier with the Toy Fox Terrier. Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks and temperament of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next. Generally, the Torkie will have qualities of both parents. They are a toy sized breed of dog with a slightly longer body than they are tall. They usually have the more delicate look of the Yorkshire Terrier but they have the lean and athletic build of the Toy Fox Terrier. The head is usually slightly flat with medium length muzzle that is slim and large erect ears. The tail is usually medium in length. The overall look of the dog should be of a leggy and athletic dog with plenty of energy.

The coat is usually medium in length with a slightly wiry texture and a soft, short undercoat. They can be found in any of the colors of their parent breeds but are commonly found in the tan and gray coat of the Yorkshire Terrier.

Temperament:
The Torkie breed of dog is a designer breed and because of this, their temperament can vary greatly. However, they are known for being very energetic and intelligent. This is a breed that loves being on the go and they love it even more when they are on the go with their family. The Torkie is an affectionate breed and while they do well with children, they are better suited to homes with older children. They are also good with other dogs but they may chase smaller household pets.
