Breed Description: 

The Thai Ridgeback breed of dog is a medium sized breed of dog that should have the shape and build that is seen in pariah-type breeds, although usually with a bit more substance in their build. They should be slightly longer than they are tall, about10 to 9 in length, and they should have a deep chest. The top line of the Thai Ridgeback should be level and the tail should be tapered and should reach the hock. The end of the tail usually has a slight curve to it like a scimitar. The head of the Thai Ridgeback should be octagonal in shape, especially from the front and the erect ears should be medium in size and should be set at the sides of the skull.

The coat of the Thai Ridgeback should be smooth and should cover the dog completely. It should be short and the skin underneath the coat should be tight. There should be a distinct ridge down the spine of the dog and this should be hairs that grow in the opposite direction than the rest of the coat. The Thai Ridgeback should be solid in color and can be black, isabella, which is a light fawn, red and blue. The only color that can have additional markings is red and this is only seen as a black mask on the face.

Height: 
The average height for a Thai Ridgeback is between 22 to 24 inches for a female and 24 to 26 inches for a male.
Weight: 
The average weight for a Thai Ridgeback is between 45 to 55 pounds for a female and 50 to 60 pounds for a male.
Health Problems: 
The Thai Ridgeback breed of dog is considered to be a very healthy breed that does not have a large number of health problems. Some are affect by Dermoid Sinus and there has been an increased occurrence of hip dysplasia seen in the breed.
Living Conditions: 
The Thai Ridgeback breed of dog can do well in apartments if they are given proper exercise since they have a medium energy level. The ideal is a home with a large fenced yard however. The breed does require a fence since they do have a strong prey drive and they will often escape from yards if they become bored.
Exercise: 
The Thai Ridgeback breed of dog is considered to have medium energy levels but they do have periods of their day when they have a burst of energy. For this reason, you should still expect to give your Thai Ridgeback between 30 to 60 minutes of exercise each day.
Life Expectancy: 
10 to 15 years
Grooming: 
The Thai Ridgeback breed of dog is a very easy breed to groom and they require little to no maintenance to keep their coats healthy. On average, you should expect to brush your dog on a weekly basis to remove dead hairs and dirt. A wipe down with a damp cloth will keep them clean and they should only be bathed when it is absolutely necessary. Ears should be cleaned on a regular basis since they can be prone to ear infections and nails should be clipped once or twice a month.
Origin: 
The Thai Ridgeback breed of dog was developed in Thailand sometime before the 17th century, however, its actual origins is believed to have been even earlier and it is not clear where the breed originated. It is also unclear what breeds went into the creation of the Thai Ridgeback but we do know that it was used as both a guard dog and hunting dog. The breed is one of only 3 breeds that feature a ridge of hair on its back and it is considered to be a very rare breed of dog.
