Breed Description: 

 The Spinoni Italiano breed of dog is a rugged looking, large dog that should be atletic and well-proportioned.  They should be muscular and have the appearance of a powerful dog. The dog should be slightly rectangular in shape with a build that is longer than tall and they should have a top line that slopes slightly to the hips.  The tail of the Spinoni Italiano is long but it is common practice to dock it.  The ears are set low on the large, rectangular head and they should hang. 

The coat of the Spinone Italiano should be a single layered coat that is free of an undercoat.  The overall length of the coat should be between one and a half to two and a half inches in length, with shorter hairs on the back of the legs and head.  There should be evidence of face furnishings with a beard, mustache and eyebrows and the overall texture of the coat should be wiry and hard.  The color of the coat can either be either orange and white, orange roan with or without colored markings, white and brown, brown roan with or without markings, or white.

Temperament: 
The Spinoni Italiano breed of dog is a happy breed of dog that is known for their good natured temperament and their eagerness to please. This is a hunting breed with all of the energy that you would expect and they are usually happiest when they have a job to do. They are very intelligent dogs and generally, they can be trained easily. The Spinoni Italiano does very well with children of all ages and they can do well with both dogs and other pets. They are usually very friendly with everyone and often approach life in a clown like manner.

The average height for a a Spinoni Italiano is between 22 to 27.5 inches.
Weight: 
The average weight for a Spinoni Italiano is between 60 to 85 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Spinoni Italiano breed of dog is considered to be a very healthy breed and there are only a few health concerns that affect the breed including Cerebellar Ataxia, Hip Dysplasia and Gastric Torsion, which is also known as Bloat.
Living Conditions: 
The Spinoni Italiano breed of dog is not recommended for apartments since they tend to be very active and really need a fair amount of space to run. They do better in a home with a large fenced yard.
Exercise: 
The Spinoni Italiano breed of dog is a very energetic breed and requires at least 30 to 60 minutes of exercise per day. They do have excess stores of energy and if they are not properly exercised they can become very destructive. Spinoni Italianos make excellent jogging companions.
Life Expectancy: 
12 to 14 years
Grooming: 
The Spinoni Italiano breed of dog is not the easiest breed to groom and you should expect to brush the coat two or three times per week and daily during shedding seasons. In addition, the coat does become matted very easily so the coat will need to be hand stripped on a regular basis. Bathing only needs to be done when necessary and ears should be cleaned on a weekly basis. Lastly, nails should be trimmed once or twice a month.
Origin: 
The Spinoni Italiano breed of dog is an old breed of dog but it has remained fairly unknown throughout its entire history. Originally developed for hunting, the Spinoni Italiano was developed in Italy by crossing a number of breeds including the Italian Setter, the French Griffon and the White Mastiff. The result was a versatile hunting dog that was used for hunting fowl. The breed was rarely seen outside of its native country, however, in the 1950's, the Spinoni Italiano was imported into the United States, although it has remained a rare breed since that time.
