Breed Description:
The Small Munsterlander breed of dog is a medium sized breed of dog that should be athletic in appearance without appearing too course. They should have an elegant and refined look but still have the substance that one looks for in a hunting dog. The breed should be slightly longer than they are tall and they should have a level top line. The tail should be medium in length and should have a slight curve to it. The head should be long and should have a lean appearance wiht a slightly domed shaped skull. The medium length ears should be set high on the head and should hang down the side of the head.
The coat of the Small Munsterlander should be a very dense coat that protects the dog from both the terrain. It should lay flat on the dog and there should be feathering on the tail, ears, and legs. The color of the Small Munsterlander should be brown and white.
Temperament:
The Small Munsterlander breed of dog is best known for their versatility and it is this trait, along with their even temper that has made them a wonderful hunting and family dog. The breed is known as an intelligent breed that is usually very easy to train, if they are given firm rules and guidance. It is important to remember that this breed can think for itself and can be stubborn at times. They are usually a loving breed that is devoted to their family and they tend to be very gentle. The Small Munsterlander is active and has a high level of energy, which does not make them suitable for everyone. They do well with children and the Small Munsterlander usually does well with other dogs. The breed thrives with their family and are usually very outgoing.

Health Problems:
The Small Munsterlander breed of dog is a very hardy breed, however, some cases of hip dysplasia has been seen in the breed.
Living Conditions:
The Small Munsterlander breed of dog is not recommended for apartments. This is an active dog and they are happiest when they can get outdoors. A home with a large fenced yard is best for the breed and while they love being outdoors, they should not be an outdoor dog since they love being with their family.
Exercise:
The Small Munsterlander breed of dog is an active dog and should receive about 60 minutes of exercise, at the very least, each day. They do need both off lead and on lead exercise and can do well as an agility dog.

Grooming:
The Small Munsterlander breed of dog is an easy breed to groom, despite its coat. Generally, they should be brushed once a week, although to keep the hair free of dirt, it is recommended that you brush them two or three times a week. Bathing should only be done when it is necessary. Nails should be trimmed on a regular basis and the ears should be cleaned weekly.
Origin:
The Small Munsterlander breed of dog was developed in Germany and was used primarily for hunting. The breed is believed to have been developed from the German Spaniel, however, its actual origins and the breeds that attributed to its development is unknown.
