Breed Description:
The Silkzer breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Silky Terrier with the Miniature Schnauzer. Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks and temperament of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next. Generally, the Silkzer will have qualities of both parents. They are a small sized breed of dog that should be robust and compact. They are usually slightly longer than they are tall and have a slightly rectangular head. The ears of the Silkzer is usually set high and usually fold forward, although some can be pricked ears. The tail is short to medium in length and it can be docked.
The coat of the Silkzer is usually a medium length wiry coat that has a soft undercoat. They can be any color of their parent breeds, however, tan and grizzle is a common coat color. The overall look of the coat should be of a scruffy dog.
Temperament:
The Silkzer breed of dog is a designer breed and because of this, their temperament can vary greatly. They are usually a very intelligent breed that is known for having a sparkle in their eye and an ability to get into mischief. They are very affectionate with their owners and love being with them, however, they can be rather suspicious of strangers and can make an excellent watchdog. The breed is not recommended for homes with young children since they can be snappish but they do very well with older children. The Silkzer can do okay with other dogs but they often have a high prey drive making them unsuitable for homes with small, non-canine pets.

Living Conditions:
The Silkzer breed of dog is versatile when it comes to living conditions and they can live in both apartments and homes with yards. They should not live outdoors and do best when they are inside with their family as a companion dog.
Exercise:
The Silkzer breed of dog is an active breed that requires between 20 to 30 minutes of exercise each day. Generally, two good walks will meet their needs but it is also important to give them an opportunity for off leash exercise as well.

Grooming:
The Silkzer breed of dog is usually clipped for easier grooming and when they are, they can be extremely easy to care for. Clipping should be done once or twice a year and the head should be clipped once a month. Brushing should be done once a week, unless they are in full coat when they should be brushed daily. The Silkzer should be bathed once a month and the ears should be kept clean to prevent ear infections.
