The Siberian Husky breed of dog is an old breed of dog that was developed in Siberia and was actually a breed that lived with a Siberian Nomadic tribe, the Chukchi. In fact, the Siberian Husky is believed to be one of the oldest breeds and they are believed to be the same today as they were thousands of years ago. The breed was used for a variety of roles including as a pack dog, hunting dog and also as a family companion. The breed was fairly unknown until 1908 when they were imported into Alaska to be used as sled dogs during the gold rush. From those dogs, popularity of the breed skyrocketed and the Siberian Husky quickly became a common sight in Alaska. However, during 1930, the borders of Siberia were closed by the Soviet government and the exporting of Siberian Husky was stopped. Thankfully, enough breeding stock were already established in North America and the Siberian Husky was able to continue as a popular breed.
