Breed Description: 

The Shorgi breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Shih Tzu with the Pembroke Welsh Corgi.  Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks and temperament of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next.  Generally, the Shorgi will have qualities of both parents. They are usually a small sized breed of dog that is robust and sturdy looking. They should have an elongated body with a level top line and low slung body. The head is usually wedge shaped with a slightly rounded skull and the ears are usually very large and erect.  The tail of the Shorgi is usually medium in length.

The coat of the Shorgi can range between the coats of the parent breeds, however, the most common coat is a medium length coat that has a wiry appearance.  It should cover the dog completely and should be very dense. The Shorgi can be found in any color common to the parent breeds, however, the most common color is white and black.

Temperament: 
The Shorgi breed of dog is a designer breed and because of this, their temperament can vary greatly. They are generally a sweet tempered breed that is intelligent and always ready to please their owner. They can be very clown like in their temperament and they often enjoy making their owners laugh. The breed can be a wonderful family dog and they can also be a very good breed for multi-pet homes. The Shorgi can be suspicious of strangers.

Health Problems: 
The Shorgi breed of dog has no known health problems, however, it is important to read up on both the Shih Tzu and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi to be aware of the health problems your puppy may be at risk for.
Living Conditions: 
The Shorgi breed of dog is versatile when it comes to living conditions and they can live in both apartments and homes with yards. They should not live outdoors and do best when they are inside with their family as a companion dog.
Exercise: 
The Shorgi breed of dog is an active breed that requires between 20 to 30 minutes of exercise each day. Generally, two good walks will meet their needs but it is also important to give them an opportunity for off leash exercise as well.

12 to 15 years
Grooming: 
The Shorgi breed of dog can be very easy to groom depending on the coat type that the dog inherits. Usually, the coat only needs to be brushed once or twice a week to keep it clean and tidy. They should only be bathed when necessary and the Shorgi can go several months without a bath. Nails should be trimmed once or twice a month and ears should be cleaned weekly.

The Shorgi breed of dog is a designer `hybrid`breed that has become popular over the last decade or so. There is no actual origin for the breed and if you are interested in learning more about the Shorgi, it is important to read up on both the Shih Tzu and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
