Dog

Pronunciation:
shee-chee
Breed Description:

The ShiChi breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Chihuahua with the Shih Tzu. Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks and temperament of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next. Generally, the ShiChi will have qualities of both parents. They are a toy sized breed of dog with a delicate appearance that is both compact and dainty. The breed should have a level top line and are slightly longer than they are tall. They often have a rounded head, similar to the Chihuahua's apple head, and the ears can either be pricked or hang down the side of the head, although usually it is the latter. The tail is usually long.

The coat of the ShiChi can vary from the short Chihuahua coat to the longer Shih Tzu coat but generally it is a combination of the two with a short undercoat and a medium length topcoat that is wavy and soft to the touch. The ShiChi can be found in any of the colors of the parent breeds, however, the white with tan markings is a common coat color.

Temperament:
The ShiChi breed of dog is a designer breed and because of this, their temperament can vary greatly. They are usually a very versatile breed that often finds their way into every aspect of their owners lives. They are usually veryplayful and friendly and while they tend to be wary of strangers, the ShiChi can warm up to anyone. The breed is not recommended for homes with small children since they can be injured very easily, but they can be a delight for an older child. The ShiChi is usually good with other dogs and pets.
Height:
There is no set height for the ShiChi at this time.
Weight:
The average weight for a ShiChi is between 3 to 6 pounds.
Health Problems:

Living Conditions:
The ShiChi breed of dog is versatile when it comes to living conditions and they can live in both apartments and homes with yards. They should not live outdoors and do best when they are inside with their family as a companion dog.
Exercise:
The ShiChi breed of dog is an active breed that requires between 20 to 30 minutes of exercise each day. Generally, two good walks will meet their needs but it is also important to give them an opportunity for off leash exercise as well. In addition, the small size of the ShiChi makes it very easy to exercise them inside, simply with a good game of fetch down a hallway.
Life Expectancy:
12 to 15 years
Grooming:
The ShiChi breed of dog is often clipped to keep grooming to a minimal. If they are clipped, they only need to be brushed once a week but in a full coat, expect to brush them two or three times per week. The ShiChi should be bathed once every month or two
