Breed Description: 

The Seidenspitz breed of dog is a small dog with a slightly square body and a curled tail that rests over the back of the dog. The ears are usually small and erect near the side of the head and the legs are slender and almost cat-like in appearance. 

The coat of the Seidenspitz consists of a dense undercoat and a long, silky topcoat. It should be white in color and it should be contrasted by the black nose and eyes.

Temperament: 
The Seidenspitz breed of dog is a true companion dog in every sense of the word. They love being with their owners and tend to suffer from separation anxiety when they are left alone for too long. They are very affectionate and love simply spending time with people regardless of what they are doing. The Seidenspitz loves to travel and they usually get along with other dogs. They are not recommended for homes with children since they can be a bit snappy and they can be easily hurt by young children.

The average height for a Seidenspitz is between 7 to 12 inches.
Weight: 
The average weight for a Seidenspitz is between 3 to 6 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Seidenspitz breed of dog is considered to be a hardy breed and has no known health problems at this time.
Living Conditions: 
The Seidenspitz breed of dog is versatile when it comes to living conditions and they can live in both apartments and homes with yards. They should not live outdoors and do best when they are inside with their family as a companion dog.
Exercise: 
The Seidenspitz breed of dog does require a fair amount of grooming and you should expect to brush them on a daily basis. In addition, the dog should be bathed once or twice a week and the coat should be trimmed around the feet, ears and anus. The breed does have a specific trim for the show ring and they should be groomed to look like a spitz type dog.

The Seidenspitz breed of dog needs one or two good walks each day to meet their exercise needs. It is often surprising how much energy this small breed has but they usually burn up their energy inside.
Origin: 
The Seidenspitz breed of dog was developed in Germany during the late 1800's by crossing the Pomeranian with the Maltese. The result was a small breed of dog with an abundant coat and a wonderful temperament. The breed gained some popularity shortly after being created, however, the Seidenspitz fell out of favor very quickly and has become a rare breed.
