Origin:
The Sealyham Terrier breed of dog can trace its origins to the mid 1800`s and to an estate of Captain John Tucker, who is credited with the development of the breed. The Sealyham Terrier was developed in Haverfordwest, Wales and they were developed to hunt foxes, badgers and other vermin. The main purpose of the development was to create a breed that was strong enough to hunt larger prey but brave enough to follow them to the ground. The breed was developed by crossing the Dandie Dinmont Terrier with the Wire Fox Terrier, the Bull Terrier, the West Highland White Terrier, the Wire Fox Terrier and the Corgi. The breed managed to gain popularity very quickly, but by the early 1920`s, the popularity had waned and the breed quickly became a rare breed, which they still are today.
