Breed Description: 

The Scotch Collie breed of dog has no real breed standard and the only emphasis for the breed is for a hard working and versatile breed.  That being said, the Scotch Collie often looks like a Collie.  They are usually an athletic, medium sized breed that should be compact and sturdy. This should be a dog that has plenty of energy and stamina and they should look like it. The Scotch Collie is usually slightly longer than they are tall with a level top line. The long tail should either be carried low or slightly curved.  The ears should be medium in size and erect and set high on the head and the head should be wedge shaped.

The coat of the Scotch Collie should be long and silky in texture.  It should cover the dog completely and there should be shorter, smoother hair on the legs, feet, head and ears. Feathering is often found on the tail and around the neck and shoulders.  The Scotch Collie can be a number of colors but the most common is orange and white.

Temperament: 
The Scotch Collie breed of dog is friendly, affectionate and intelligent dogs that are known for being a wonderful family dog. This is a breed that loves children and will provide a child of any age with a dedicated and loyal companoin. The breed is usually very happy and while they can be shy and reserved with new people, the breed truly shines with their own family. The breed does very well with other pets but they can have problems adjusting to other dogs.

The average height for a Scotch Collie is between 19 to 24 inches.
Weight: 
The average weight for a Scotch Collie is between 40 to 70 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Scotch Collie breed of dog is a very hardy breed and has no known health problems at this time.
Living Conditions: 
The Scotch Collie breed of dog can do well in an apartment if they are properly exercised, hwoever, the ideal is a home wiht a large fenced yard or even acreage.
Exercise: 
The Scotch Collie breed of dog is a very energetic breed and needs about 60 minutes of exercise each day. It is important for them to have something to do and if they don't they can become very destructive.

12 to 15 years
Grooming: 
The Scotch Collie breed of dog is a very easy breed to groom and they require little maintenance to keep their coats healthy. On average, you should expect to brush your dog on a weekly basis to remove dead hairs and dirt. It is important when you are brushing the Scotch Collie that you wet the coat down since brushing it dry will actually damage it and cause you more work. Ears should be cleaned on a regular basis and nails should be clipped once or twice a month.
Origin: 
The Scotch Collie breed of dog is an old breed of dog that was developed in Great Britan and was actually used to create many other types of collie breeds. The breed itself is considered to be a fairly old breed but since emphasis was placed on function rather than form, there has never been a set breed standard and the actual breeds that went into its development was lost. The Scotch Collie was popular at one time, however, after World War II, the Scotch Collie began to disappear and has become a rare breed of dog.
