Breed Description: 

The Russian Harlequin Hound breed of dog is a medium sized breed that should be athletic in appearance. They should be sturdy and have a strong build that brings to mind a hunting breed. The head should be broad, while the ears should be small and hang down the side of the head. The top line should be level and the tail should be thick and long.

The coat of the Russian Harlequin Hound should be short and cover the dog completely. It can be found in yellow, red or in a tri color with black, tan and white.

Temperament: 
The Russian Harlequin Hound breed of dog is an intelligent and hard working breed that is usually very cheerful and affectionate. They are generally easy to train and the Russian Harlequin Hound is usually eager to please their owners. They are extremely loyal and they tend to be very playful. The breed does well with children of all ages and they can do very well with other dogs. They are not recommended for homes with small, non-canine pets since the Russian Harlequin Hound does have a strong prey drive.

The average height for the Russian Harlequin Hound is between 22 to 27 inches.
Weight: 
The average weight for the Russian Harlequin Hound is between 40 to 70 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Russian Harlequin Hound breed of dog is considered to be a hardy breed of dog with few known health problems.
Living Conditions: 
The Russian Harlequin Hound breed of dog is not recommended for apartments. This is a hunting breed and does much better in a home with a large yard or acreage.

The Russian Harlequin Hound breed of dog is a very active breed and requires 45 to 60 minutes of exercise each day.

Grooming: 
The Russian Harlequin Hound breed of dog is a very easy breed to groom and they require little to no maintenance to keep their coats healthy. On average, you should expect to brush your dog on a weekly basis to remove dead hairs and dirt. A wipe down with a damp cloth will keep them clean and they should only be bathed when it is absolutely necessary. Ears should be cleaned on a regular basis and nails should be clipped once or twice a month.
Origin: 
The Russian Harlequin Hound breed of dog was developed in Russia and was originally known as the Anglo-Russian Hound. The breed was developed as a hunting dog and while it is unclear what breeds went into its creation, there is strong evidence that both the Russian Hound and the English Foxhound were used. The breed is considered to be an uncommon breed.
