Rubber Dog Toys

When you have a dog that is an aggressive chewer and likes to destroy all the toys you purchase, it is hard to figure out what he can safely play with. The best type of toys to use for these active chewers is one that is rubber based.

Some rubber toys are softer in nature and more pliable, and then there are rubber toys that are heavier duty and very hard to destroy. Most dogs will do just fine with any level of rubber toy, but as with any toy, they should be supervised to ensure that the dog is not able to get any part of the rubber off.

There are a lot of options in rubber toys:

1. Many of the treat-dispensing toys are made of rubber or a similar non-puncturing material. This is so the dog can work hard to get the food out without damaging the toy. These dispensers can be excellent toys as well as good busy activity items to help with boredom and excess energy.

Some of the toys have inserts that can be purchased. The dog has to work to get the edible insert out. Other rubber toys allow you to put either treats or kibble inside and as the dog moves it about, the food spits out. The classic Kong is used this way, but it can also be rubbed with peanut butter inside for an extra special treat.

2. If you have a dog that likes games of tug but is too rough for simple fabric tug toys, there are several heavy duty rubber options. These include a space for your hand to hold onto and a space for your dog to grab.

3. There are quite a few squeaky toy options made out of natural rubber now. In the past, squeaky toys were only made out of easy to destroy options like vinyl and fabric, but rubber has become a very popular durable option. These also work well in games of fetch and are easy to clean.

4. Dogs that love to play balls but are too rough for tennis balls or lesser materials can now have a rubber ball. These won’t include a squeaker and are heavier in weight, but they are virtually impossible to destroy and usually have a pretty high bounce making them very interesting to most dogs.
