Breed Description:

The Pughasa breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Pug and the Lhasa Apso. Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks and temperament of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next. Generally, the Pughasa will have qualities of all the parents. They are usually a small breed of dog that should be slightly longer than they are tall. The overall look should be of a compact breed that is robust and never fragile looking. They should have short legs and their top line should be level. Generally, the dog has a medium length tail that curls over the back and a square shaped head with a broad skull and a short muzzle and an under bite.

The coat of the Pughasa can range from the short, hard coat of the Pug to the long silky coat of the Lhasa Apso, however, the most common is a medium length coat with both a top and undercoat. There should be a fluffy appearance to the dog and the coat should be medium in texture. The Pughasa can be found in any colors of the parent breeds but the most common are either fawn with a black mask or black with white.

Temperament:
The Pughasa breed of dog is a designer breed and because of this, their temperament can vary greatly. They are described as a cheerful little breed with a clown like temperament and a great sense of humor. They are usually very playful and affectionate with their owners and family and makes a loving companion. They thrive when they can be with their owners and can often suffer from separation anxiety when they are left for long period of time. The breed is okay with children but they are better suited to homes with older children since they can be snappy. The breed does well with other dogs and pets but they are naturally suspicious of strangers so they may take a while to warm up to new people.
