Breed Description:

The Pug-Zu breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Pug and the Shih Tzu. Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks and temperament of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next. Generally, the Pug-Zu will have qualities of all the parents.  They are usually a small breed of dog that should be slightly longer than they are tall. The overall look should be of a compact breed that is robust and never fragile looking. They should have short legs and their top line should be level. Generally, the dog has a medium length tail that curls over the back and a square shaped head with a broad skull and a short muzzle. There should be wrinkles on the fact and the ears should be medium in size and folded forward.

The coat of the Pug-Zu can range from the short, hard coat of the Pug to the long silky coat of the Shih Tzu, however, the most common is a medium length coat with both a top and undercoat. There should be a fluffy appearance to the dog and the coat should be medium in texture. The Pug-Zu can be found in any colors of the parent breeds but the most common are fawn with a black mask, brindle or white and brown.

Temperament:
The Pug-Zu breed of dog is a designer breed and because of this, their temperament can vary greatly. They are usually described as a versatile breed that will adapt to any lifestyle, regardless of how busy or inactive it is. They are usually very happy and affectionate and while they do have a mischievous streak, they tend to temper it with a clown like personality that will have owners laughing in delight. The breed is amazing with children but they may be better suited to older children simply because of their size. The Pug-Zu does well with other dogs and pets and is an ideal breed for multi-pet homes.
