The Pudelpointer breed of dog is a breed that is just over 100 years old, although it has not been accepted by many kennel clubs. The breed was developed in Germany by Baron von Zedlitz in an effort to create a versatile hunting and companion breed. Unlike some breeds, the actual development is well documented and Baron von Zedlitz used both Poodles and English Pointers to create the breed. In fact, it is believed that 7 Poodles in total were used, while 100 English Pointers were also used. The result was the versatile breed that Baron von Zedlitz was looking for and finally, by 1881, the first Pudelpointer litter was born. From this litter, the breed continued to grow into what we known today and the first Pudelpointer arrived in the United States in 1956, although it has remained a rare breed to this day.
