Breed Description:

The Pomchi breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Pomeranian and the Chihuahua. Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks and temperament of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next. Generally, the Pomchi will have qualities of all the parents. They are a toy sized breed that should be slightly elongated with a compact and robust body. Their legs are usually very delicate looking and their heads are usually wedge shaped, although some have the distinct apple shape of the Chihuahua parent. The ears are usually large and stand erect near the top of the head. The tail usually curves over the back of the dog like the Pomeranian.

The coat can range from the long, dense coat of the Pomeranian to the short, single coat of the Chihuahua. The most common coat is medium in length that is free of an undercoat. Usually there is feathering on the ears and tail and a frill on the chest. The Pomchi can be found in any color that is common for the parent breeds but one of the most common color is cream or orange.

Temperament:
The Pomchi breed of dog is a designer breed and because of this, their temperament can vary greatly. They are usually described as being a mischievous little dog with a big personality that is common to both the parent breeds. This is a dog that will take charge in the house and they will often rule it with an iron fist if they are allowed to. While their small size makes people coddle them, the Pomchi really needs an owner that can set firm rules. If they have this, there is no limit to how sweet and wonderful the Pomchi can be. They are usually very intelligent and they often have an energy that can be alarming. They are usually very affectionate and love being with their owners. They can be reserved with strangers and they will bark when they see something suspicious. The Pomchi is not recommended for homes with children since they can be hurt quite easily and they may be snappy. The breed does very well with other dogs and pets.
Height:
The average height for a Pomchi is between 6 to 9 inches.
Weight:
The average height for a Pomchi is between 2 to 10 pounds.
Health Problems:
The Pomchi breed of dog has no known health problems, however, it is important to read up on the Pomeranian and the Chihuahua to be aware of the health problems your puppy may be at risk for.
Living Conditions:
The Pom-Chee breed of dog is versatile when it comes to living conditions and they can live in both apartments and homes with yards. They should not live outdoors and do best when they are inside with their family as a companion dog.
Exercise:
The Pomchi breed of dog is an active breed that requires between 20 to 30 minutes of exercise each day. Generally, two good walks will meet their needs but it is also important to give them an opportunity for off leash exercise as well.
Life Expectancy:
12 to 16 years
Grooming:
The Pomchi breed of dog does require a little extra grooming and expect to brush them two or three times a week. The hair may need to be trimmed every month or two, especially around the face, ears and feet but in general, it can be left natural. The Pomchi should be bathed about once a month to keep the coat healthy and teeth should be brushed on a weekly basis. Nails should be kept trimmed and the ears should be cleaned on a weekly basis as well.
