Dog

Pronunciation:
plahy-kuh
Breed Description:

The Plica breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Ori-Pei with the Basset Hound. Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks and temperament of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next. Generally, the Plica will have qualities of all the parents. They are a medium to small sized breed of dog that has a slightly elongated body of the Basset Hound and the short legs. They are usually longer than they are tall and they have the distinct domed head and long ears of the Basset Hound. They usually have a long tail and they do not have the jowls and droopy eyes that are common in the Basset Hound.

The coat of the Plica can is usually short and dense. The coat should be slick, that that of the Basset Hound and there can be longer hair on the tail and ears. The color of the Plica can be any of the colors of the parent breeds, however, hound colors are very common in the breed including bi-color, parti-color, tri-color, merle, particularly blue merle, spotted or solid. They can be found in black, lemon, black and tan, tan, white, chestnut or red either as a solid or in any combination of patterns.

Temperament:
The Plica breed of dog is a designer breed and because of this, their temperament can vary greatly. They can be a very playful breed that is affectionate and outgoing, however, some can be very reserved. They are generally laid back but they can have a high level of energy. The Plica usually does well well with children of all ages and they can do well with other pets and dogs. The breed may be reserved with strangers and if they take after their Ori-Pei parent, there may be some problems with aggression so it is important to read up on the Ori-Pei as well.
