Breed Description: 

The Petit Bleus de Gascogne breed of dog is a medium sized breed of dog that should be slightly longer than they are tall. They should have a level top line and their overall look should be of an athletic dog with plenty of endurance.  The head is very hound-like with a long muzzle and skull and the nose should be large.  The tail is long and tapered to a point nad the ears are long and hang down the side of the head.

The coat of the Petit Bleus de Gascogne should be short and lay flat against the body. It should have a smooth look and should be very dense, covering the dog completely.  The color of the Petit Bleus de Gascogne should be a white mottled through with black markings and spots. This should give the dog an almost blue color.  There should also be tan markings on the face and legs.

Temperament: 
The Petit Bleus de Gascogne breed of dog is a quiet and unassuming breed that is hard working. They are usually not an overly friendly dog and may take some time to warm up, but with their family, they are exceptionally friendly, affectionate and loyal. The breed is definitely one to follow their nose and they will follow it into trouble many times. They can be stubborn from time to time and they really need a strong owner who can set firm rules. The Petit Bleus de Gascogne does okay with children but they do very well with other dogs.

The average height for a Petit Bleus de Gascogne is between 20 to 23 inches.
Weight: 
The average weight for a Petit Bleus de Gascogne is between 40 to 48 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Petit Bleus de Gascogne breed of dog is considered to be a very hardy breed and has no known health problems at this time.
Living Conditions: 
The Petit Bleus de Gascogne breed of dog is not recommended for apartments. They do have a fair amount of energy and can be quite loud so the ideal is a home with a large fenced yard. It is important for this breed to have a secure backyard since they will follow their nose, even if it leads them into traffic.
Exercise: 
The Petit Bleus de Gascogne breed of dog is very active and requires between 45 and 60 minutes of exercise each day. They do need both on lead and off lead exercise and they should always be kept on lead when they are not in a secure area to prevent them from running away.

10 to 12 years
Grooming: 
The Petit Bleus de Gascogne breed of dog is a very easy breed to groom and they require little to no maintenance to keep their coats healthy. On average, you should expect to brush your dog on a weekly basis to remove dead hairs and dirt. A wipe down with a damp cloth will keep them clean and they should only be bathed when it is absolutely necessary. Ears should be cleaned on a regular basis and nails should be clipped once or twice a month.
Origin: 
The Petit Bleus de Gascogne breed of dog is a medium sized breed of hunting dog that was developed in France. The breed actually shares the same history of the Grand Bleus de Gascogne and is, in fact, simply a smaller version of it. The Petit Bleus de Gascogne came to be through selective breed and was used in many of the same was as the Grand Bleus de Gascogne, including hunting foxes, wolves and other large game. The breed is considered to be very rare.
