Cat Fashion Japanese Style
Of all the fashion trends that emerge from time to time, I have found that Japanese style cat fashion has had a tremendous impact on me. In fact, I have stacked my cat's wardrobe with a quite alarming number of Japanese fashion items sufficient to maintain Anglo Japanese relations at a high level for many years to come!
I discovered some very stylish kimono articles that I simply couldn't resist. But let me first explain the true story behind my addiction to Japanese-style cat fashion. I have always had a penchant for Oriental style and have purchased many kimonos and associated paraphernalia for many years. I was never able to find anything specific for my cat however and it was only when I found a sale at a city-based Japanese product shop that I struck upon a new idea.
As I browsed through the items on sale at the shop one Saturday afternoon I discovered some exquisite silken straps that were used to tie an intricately designed kimono into a particular shape so that it fell properly as it is owner stood upright. The straps were on sale as separate items and they were available in a range of patterns and colours with striking reds greens and peacock blues that I simply could not resist.
I didn't have any plans for them, and when I got them home and lay them out on the dining room table my family was equally impressed with the beautiful designs and colours. Each strap was about 2 feet in length and 6 inches wide.
The question was asked of me: ”What are you going to do with them?”. Quick as a flash I responded that I was going to use them to manufacture something for our pet cat! It came to me on the spur of the moment and I don't know why it happened.
The next thing I know I was crafting a collar and tie for our precious little pet. I even fashion some miniature replica samurai swords out of some decorative sheet metal I had put aside for a project my students had created at school. I was able to attach the tiny salts to the bottom of the collar so that they would not irritate our cat in any way.
Imagine the surprise of my family experienced what I finished creating all the items about a week later. I gathered Tiny into my arms and slowly dressed her in the specially crafted Japanese attire.
As I let it rot into the lounge room where the family had gathered for the anticipated parade, Tiny slowly and confidently walked down what appeared to be a red carpet and yawned in glorious boredom at the sensation she knew she was creating!
I do not take any credit for any of the impact she created that day, it was all cat and nothing more.
Ever since that day I have been adding slowly to Japanese-style cat collection is now I can playfully choose from four or five outfits for Tiny to prance around in. Of course, I would never force her to do anything but she did not want to do, but I suspect that she loves every moment of it.
