Breed Description: 

The Peruvian Inca Orchid breed of dog is a medium sized breed of dog that should have a lean and well-balanced build. The breed should be slightly longer than they are tall and they should have an athletic appearance wiht long legs, that are very skinny, and a broad body. The head should be narrow in shape and should taper to a point. The ears should be very large adn erect and should resemble bat ears.

The breed is completely hairless, outside of a few hairs on the face and head, and they can be found in a number of colors including black, tan, gray or mottled with pink undertones.

Temperament: 
The Peruvian Inca Orchid breed of dog is an intelligent and good-natured dog that is often described as being sweet and affectionate. The breed is a people breed and they thrive when they have someone to play with. The Peruvian Inca Orchid does very well with children of all ages and they can make an excellent pet for a multi-pet home. They do have a strong prey drive, however, and are not recommended for homes with small non-canine pets. The breed is usually very accepting of everyone, including strangers.

The average height for a Peruvian Inca Orchid is between 20 to 26 inches.

The average weight for a Peruvian Inca Orchid is between 26 to 50 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Peruvian Inca Orchid breed of dog is considered to be a very healthy breed, however, they can have problems with their skin due to it being exposed to the elements and they can be prone to tooth and gum disease.
Living Conditions: 
The Peruvian Inca Orchid breed of dog can do very well in an apartment and is actually quite versatile. They are not an outdoor breed and they do need protection from the elements, both during the hot summer months and the cold winter months.
Exercise: 
The Peruvian Inca Orchid breed of dog is an active breed but they don't require a lot of exercise. Generally, 20 to 30 minutes a day will keep this breed happy and healthy.

Grooming: 
The Peruvian Inca Orchid breed of dog is actually a very easy breed to groom despite what is said by many. Bathing only needs to be done when it is necessary and they can be bathed once every month or two. While some people recommend frequent bathing, the breed actually has natural oils that keep the skin healthy. Wipe them down on a regular basis to remove dirt from their skin and make sure you apply sunscreen when your dog is outside. Although it may seem like a hard breed to groom, they can be fairly easy to upkeep. Ears should be cleaned on a weekly basis for both varieties and nails should also be clipped several times a month.
Origin: 
The Peruvian Inca Orchid breed of dog was developed in Peru and is considered to be a very old breed. In fact, the breed is believed to have been developed long before the 16th century and was already established in Peru when the Spanish first landed there. The actual history of the breed has been lost in time but we do know that the Peruvian Inca Orchid was kept by Inca nobility. The breed never gained a lot of popularity and only a handful were brought out of Peru to Europe, China and the United States and they have remained a rare breed of dog to this day.
