Breed Description: 

The Pekehund breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Pekingese and the Dachshund. Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks and temperament of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next. Generally, the Pekehund will have qualities of all the parents. They are usually a small sized breed of dog that is set low to the ground with short legs and an elongated body. The top line is level and the medium length tail can either be straight or curl over the back. The Pekehund is usually round in build and very robust and their head is often similar to the Dachshund with the narrow muzzle. They can often have large eyes like the Pekingese and the ears are a combination of the two and will hang down the side of the head.

The coat of the Pekehund can range from the short coat of the Dachshund to the long silky coat of the Pekingese. Usually, it is medium in length with an abundant amount of hair that covers the dog completely. Feathering is commonly seen on the ears and tail and the texture of the coat is fine and silky. The Pekehund can be found in any color of the parent breeds but a common colors are red or black and tan.

Temperament: 
The Pekehund breed of dog is a designer breed and because of this, their temperament can vary greatly. They are usually a very friendly dog that gets along well with everyone. They usually fit into their owner's lives and love being with them on a regular basis, however, they are not always as clingy as some breeds. The Pekehund can be stubborn from time to time but their intelligence makes them fairly easy to train. The breed does exceptionally well with children and they are often sturdy enough to take even the most rough of play. They are usually a bit reserved with strangers but they do well with other dogs and pets.

The average weight for a Pekehund is between 12 to 20 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Pekehund breed of dog has no known health problems, however, it is important to read up on the Dachshund and the Pekingese to be aware of the health problems your puppy may be at risk for.
Living Conditions: 
The Pekehund breed of dog is versatile when it comes to living conditions and they can live in both apartments and homes with yards. They should not live outdoors and do best when they are inside with their family as a companion dog.
Exercise: 
The Pekehund breed of dog is an active breed that requires between 20 to 30 minutes of exercise each day. Generally, two good walks will meet their needs but it is also important to give them an opportunity for off leash exercise as well.

12 to 15 years
Grooming: 
The Pekehund breed of dog is an easy breed to care for and they only need to be brushed once or twice a week. The hair may need to be trimmed every month or two, especially around the face, ears and feet but in general, it can be left natural. The Pekehund should be bathed about once a month to keep the coat healthy and teeth should be brushed on a weekly basis. Nails should be kept trimmed and the ears should be cleaned on a weekly basis as well.
