Breed Description:

The Peke-A-Tese breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Pekingese and the Maltese. Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks and temperament of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next. Generally, the Peke-A-Tese will have qualities of all the parents. They should be a small to toy sized breed of dog that is robust and compact with a slightly longer body than they are tall. The breed usually has a level top line and a small slightly rounded head with a short muzzle that isn't as short as a Pekingese. The small triangle ears should hang down the side of the head and the long tail should either hang straight or curl over the back of the dog.

The coat of the Peke-A-Tese can range between the long coat of the Pekingese and the wavy coat of the Maltese but usually it consists of a double coat with a soft, short undercoat and a fluffy, cotton like topcoat that is medium in length and medium in texture. The coat can be found in any color or marking but the common color is white.

Temperament:

The breed can do okay with children, depending on the parent breed they take after, and they may be better suited to a home with older children. In addition, depending on the parent breed, the Peke-A-Tese may not do well with other dogs and pets but can learn to accept them with proper socialization.
