Breed Description:

The Ori-Pei breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Shar-Pei with the Pug. Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks and temperament of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next. Generally, the Ori-Pei will have qualities of both parents.  They are usually a small sized breed of dog that should have a slightly longer body than they are tall. The top line is usually level and they should have a round head with a medium to short length muzzle. The ears are usually rose or button shaped, however, they can be folded forward and medium in length. The tail is usually long and curled over the back.  There should be wrinkles on the face and body of the Ori-Pei.

The coat of the Ori-Pei should be short with a dense, soft undercoat. The top coat should be about 1/2 inch in length and it should have a slightly course texture to it. The Ori-Pei can be found in any color that is common in the parent breeds but the most common colors are fawn with a black mask, black, brown or gray.

Temperament:
The Ori-Pei breed of dog is a designer breed and because of this, their temperament can vary greatly. They are generally described as a friendly and loyal breed that is usually very intelligent and playful. They often have a clown like temperament, especially if they take after their Pug parent and are generally a happy breed. They do very well with children of all ages and tend to be gentle with them, however, they are often better suited to homes with older children. The breed can be stubborn at times but usually they are eager to please and will learn quickly. The breed does well with other pets and dogs but socialization is important.

Living Conditions:
The Ori-Pei breed of dog can do very well in apartments if they are exercised properly, however, the ideal living condition is a home with a large fenced yard. In addition, they should not be an outdoor dog; this is a breed that loves being with their owners.

Life Expectancy:
12 to 15 years
Grooming:
The Ori-Pei is a very easy breed to groom and they require little to no maintenance to keep their coats healthy. On average, you should expect to brush your dog on a weekly basis to remove dead hairs and dirt. A wipe down with a damp cloth will keep them clean and they should only be bathed when it is absolutely necessary. Ears should be cleaned on a regular basis and nails should be clipped once or twice a month. The only other task is to wipe down the dog's face, wrinkles and around the eyes on a daily basis to reduce the risk of skin infections.
Origin:
The Ori-Pei breed of dog is a designer `hybrid` breed that has become popular over the last decade or so. There is no actual origin for the breed and if you are interested in learning more about the Ori-Pei, it is important to read up on both the Shar Pei and the Pug.
