The Olde Boston Bulldogge was developed as a fighting dog by crossing a number of Bull and Terrier breeds to create a large, muscular and tenacious fighting dog. The original Boston Bulldog was considered to be the same breed as the Boston Terrier, however, the smaller puppies produced in the litters were refined and later became known as the Boston Terrier. The other larger puppies, stayed much the way they were and became known as the Boston Bulldog. As dog fighting became outlawed, the Boston Bulldog began to dwindle in number until it is believed that they were extinct. However, a few dedicated breeders managed to preserve the breed and today, the Olde Boston Bulldogge is quickly gaining popularity.
