Breed Description: 

The Norbottenspets breed of dog is a medium sized breed of dog that should be athletic without appearing too muscular or large. They should have a light build that is well-proportioned and balanced.  The top line should be level and the head should be wedge-shaped with large, pricked ears set high on the head. The tail should be long and should curl over the back. It is interesting to note that some Norbottenspets are born with a natural bobtail.

The coat of the Norbottenspets should be a double coat that consists of a dense, short undercoat and a thick, short topcoat.  The topcoat should lay close to the dog and there should be a rough texture to it. There shouldn't be any wave and the hairs should be straight. The color of the Norbottenspets should be primarily white with symmetrical markings of red, brown or yellow.

Temperament: 
The Norbottenspets breed of dog is an intelligent and friendly breed that is known for their good-natured personality and their ability to get along with everyone. They are often described as an active breed that is very cunning and they are often looking for something to do on their own. Despite their friendly and gentle demeanor, this is not an easy breed and they are not recommended for new or timid owners since they need a firm and patient owner. The Norbottenspets usually gets along well with other dogs and pets but they do have a high prey drive and are not recommended for homes with smaller non-canine pets. The breed does very well with children of all ages. One thing to note is that the Norbottenspets will often wander away.

The average height for a Norbottenspets is between 16 to 17 inches.
Weight: 
The average weight for a Norbottenspets is between 18 to 33 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Norbottenspets breed of dog is considered to be a very hardy breed and there are no known health problems at this time.
Living Conditions: 
The Norbottenspets breed of dog is better suited to homes with a large fenced yard and they are not recommended for apartments.
Exercise: 
The Norbottenspets breed of dog is an active breed that does require a fair amount of exercise. Expect to give them between 45 to 60 minutes of exercise per day and it is important to keep them on leash when they are not in a secure area since they have been known to run after "prey".

Grooming: 
The Norbottenspets breed of dog is an easy breed to groom and only needs to be brushed down about once per week, although they should be brushed two or three times a week when they are shedding. The breed only needs to be bathed when it is necessary but the ears should be cleaned on a regular basis as well as the nails trimmed.
Origin: 
The Norbottenspets breed of dog is a spitz type breed that was developed in Norrbotten, Sweden in the early 1600's. The breed was originally used as a hunting dog and while they are believed to be from Sweden, the breed was popular in Finland as well. The breed was thought to be extinct after World War I but through the efforts of a handful of dedicated breeders, the Norbottenspets was saved. It was once again accepted as a viable breed in the late 1960's and a standard was written and accepted by both teh FCI and the Swedish Kennel Club.
