Breed Description: 

The Mountain View Cur breed of dog is a medium sized breed that is muscular and well-balanced.  The breed should be stocky with a build that is slightly longer than it is tall. The line of the back should be straight and the feet should be small and slightly cat-like.  The tail of the Mountain View Cur is usually a bob-tail; however, it is commonly docked if it is not.  Most Mountain View Curs are bred without a dewclaw and those that are, have their dewclaws removed.  The ears are set high on the head and should fold over near the ends.

The coat of the Mountain View Cur should be short and smooth. There should be two coats on the dog and it should be dense and cover the dog completely.  The Mountain View Cur can be several colors including brindle, black, yellow or brindle and black.  Most Mountain View Curs have white markings but some can be solid in color.

Temperament: 
The Mountain View Cur breed of dog is an exceptional dog with an outgoing temperament. They are usually very affectionate to their family and are extremely gentle with kids. They are very protective and have an uncanny ability to sense danger. They are usually very eager to be with their owner and family and will often do anything that their owner asks. However, it is important to note that they are not submissive and do require a firm and confident owner. The Mountain View Cur can do well with other dogs but they do have a strong prey drive and may not be suitable for homes with other smaller pets.

The average height of a Mountain View Cur is between 18 to 26 inches.
Weight: 
The average weight of a Mountain View Cur is between 30 to 60 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Mountain View Cur breed of dog has no known health problems and they are considered to be a very hardy breed.
Living Conditions: 
The Mountain View Cur breed of dog is not recommended for apartments. They are an active breed and need a yard to exercise in. The ideal home for a Mountain View Cur is a home with acreage for the dog to explore. The Mountain View Cur is not recommended as an outdoor dog since they thrive when they are with their family.
Exercise: 
The Mountain View Cur breed of dog is an active breed that needs at least 60 minutes of exercise each day. They love being out and working so it is important to offer them a variety of activities. The Mountain View Cur can make an excellent jogging companion and can do very well in a range of dog sports.

Grooming: 
The Mountain View Cur breed of dog should be brushed once per week to remove any dead hair but outside of that, they are a very easy dog to groom. Special care should be given to the ears, since they can be prone to ear infections and the hair under the ears and around the feet should be trimmed on a regular basis. Baths should only be given when it is absolutely necessary and the Mountain View Cur can go several months between baths.
Origin: 
The Mountain View Cur breed of dog was developed in the United States and can accredit its origins to a Michael and Marie Bloodgood. In the late 1980's, the couple made an effort to create a hunting breed that was easy to handle and superior at treeing game. The chosen breed for them to work with was the Mountain Cur, which was a hunting dog that was developed in the United States. By selectively breeding the Mountain Cur, the Mountain View Cur was created, which was also the name of their kennel. Strict guidelines for breeding the dogs were created and effort has been made to make the breed a recognized breed. Although it has gained some popularity in the United States, the Mountain View Cur is still considered to be a rare breed.
