Breed Description: 

The Mountain Mastiff breed of dog is a large sized breed that was developed by crossing the Bernese Mountain Dog with the English Mastiff.  It should be a massive dog with straight lines and a robust build. They should be muscular and have the appearance of a dog with a lot of stamina.

The Mountain Mastiff can have three coat types and it depends on the parent that the puppy takes after.  The coat can either be short and smooth but dense, which is typical of the English Mastiff or it can be long with a soft, thick undercoat and a thick topcoat that is feathered on the chest, back of the legs, tail, and ears like the Bernese Mountain Dog. It can also be a combination of the two with a thick undercoat and a topcoat that is medium in length with minimal feathering.  The color of the Mountain Mastiff can be black and tan, black, tan and white, tan and white, brindled, apricot or fawn. They can also have the black mask that is seen in the English Mastiff.

Temperament: 
The Mountain Mastiff breed of dog is gentle and affectionate. They can make excellent family dogs and are usually very gentle with kids, although they may be better suited for older children since they are a large breed. The Mountain Mastiff is very loyal to their family and are protective of them. They usually get along well with other animals and dogs and can be an excellent breed for a multi-pet family. They do require firm rules and training and are not recommended for new or timid owners.

The average height of a Mountain Mastiff is between 23 to 32 inches.
Weight: 
The average weight of a Mountain Mastiff is between 85 to 220 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Mountain Mastiff breed of dog has no known health problems, however, it is important to read up on both the Mastiff and the Bernese Mountain Dog to be aware of the health problems your puppy may be at risk for.
Living Conditions: 
The Mountain Mastiff breed of dog can live in apartments with proper exercise, however, the ideal home is one that has a large fenced yard for exercise.
Exercise: 
The Mountain Mastiff breed of dog can be a rather inactive breed but it is important to offer them between 30 to 45 minutes of exercise per day to make sure that they don't gain too much weight.

6 to 10 years
Grooming: 
The Mountain Mastiff breed of dog can range in grooming needs according to the coat type they have. Short haired coats need to be brushed once per week to remove dead hair while medium length coats should be brushed two or three times per week. The long haired coat should be brushed on a daily basis. All the coat types should only be bathed when it is necessary and they can go several months between bathing. Care should be given to the ears and they should be cleaned on a regular basis to prevent infections.
Origin: 
The Mountain Mastiff breed of dog is a designer `hybrid`breed that has become popular over the last decade or so. There is no actual origin for the breed and if you are interested in learning more about the Mountain Mastiff, it is important to read up on both the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Mastiff.
