Horse

Breed Description:

The Mezohegyesi Sport breed of horse is primarily a saddle breed that originated and is bred exclusively in Mezohegyesi, Hungary, at the state stud of the same name. The breed is compact and thick overall, and usually occurs in bay or brown (which is a darker variation of bay). The head is small and has a flat profile, with intelligent eyes and alert ears. The neck is of medium length and is exceptionally well muscled, rising up from a deep but not overly wide chest. The withers are moderate and broad, sloping gently to meet the back and the slightly risen croup. The legs are slender but strong, and the hooves are hard and well-formed.

Temperament:
The Mezohegyesi breed of horse is a reserved and kind breed. Always willing to work or put on a performance, the Mezohegyesi is adept as a saddle horse and show jumper, and is noted for its exceptional obedience and loyalty to its handlers. The breed is highly intelligent, energetic, and capable of sustained bursts of energy.
Height:
The State stud only lists the biting height, which is 177 – 183 centimeters
Health Problems:
The Mezohegyesi Sport horse has been very carefully and responsibly bred at the state stud in Hungary for nearly fifty years. As a result of this regimented breeding, the Mezohegyesi exhibits no known health problems. It may, however, be prone to stress fractures or other injuries if it is utilized as a jumper for long periods of time, although this could be said of nearly any breed. The Mezohegyesi is a long-lived breed and enjoys excellent health and fertility.
Origin:
The Mezohegyesi breed of horse has been bred exclusively at the State Stud in its native land of Hungary. The stud keeps only a couple of dozen quality mares on hand at any time for selective breeding, and the stud makes great efforts each year to increase the numbers of this breed. Developed in the late 1950’s or early 1960’s, the breed entered the Olympic Games in 1980 and performed exceedingly well, taking gold, silver and other trophies. The breed also won several events at the Volvo World Cup Eastern League.
