Breed Description:

The Mal-Shi breed of dog is a small sized breed that was developed by crossing the Maltese with the Shih Tzu.  The breed should be slightly square in build and should be thinner and more delicate than the Shih Tzu. They usually have a smaller muzzle but it is not pushed in as much as the Shih Tzu. The tail is often curled slightly over the back and the ears are long and hang down the side of the head.

The coat of the Mal-Shi should be long and soft and it should have a slight wave in it. The Mal-Shi can have a defined beard and topknot but not all of them do.  In general, the coat has a fluffy appearance and can be found in any color or marking but the common color is white with or without markings that are brown, gray or black in color

Temperament:
The Mal-Shi breed of dog is a very loyal companion that is lively and clown like in temperament. They are always willing to play and they love making their owners laugh. They tend to be very friendly but they can be aggressive if they are not properly trained or socialized. If they are, they usually get along well with everyone and can do well in multi-pet homes. They are not recommended for homes with small children since they can be a snappy breed and are better suited to homes with older children.
