Breed Description: 

The Mahratta Greyhound breed of dog is a medium sized dog with a well-balanced and symmetrical body that is slightly longer than it is tall.  The breed has a long tail, and long ears that hand down the side of the head. They should have a powerful build that is muscular and gives the appearance of agility and they should have a deep chest with a slightly tucked up stomach.

The coat of the Mahratta Greyhound is short and sleek but it should be dense and should cover the dog completely.  The hair on the tail should be slightly longer and should be feathered creating a thicker tip than base.  The Mahratta Greyhound can be found in one color, which is dark blue with tan on the belly, chest, muzzle, tail and inside of legs.

 

 
 
Temperament: 
The Mahratta Greyhound breed of dog is an independent dog that is brave and energetic. This is a hunting dog through and through and it has the drive and determination to work hard. As a pet, the Mahratta Greyhound is very loyal and loves being with their family. They do have a very strong prey drive so it is not recommended for homes with other pets, specifically small household pets or small dogs.

The average height of the Mahratta Greyhound is between 21 to 23 inches.
Weight: 
The average weight of a Mahratta Greyhound is between 50 to 65 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Mahratta Greyhound breed of dog has no known health problems at this time.
Living Conditions: 
The Mahratta Greyhound breed of dog is not recommended for apartments. They do much better in homes with a large fenced yard. Fencing is very important since this breed will chase after other animals. They can be susceptible to cold so it is important to dress them during cold weather.
Exercise: 
The Mahratta Greyhound breed of dog is a high energy dog and will need about 60 minutes of exercise each day. They can make excellent jogging companions.
Life Expectancy: 
unknown but expect 10 to 12 years
Grooming: 
The Mahratta Greyhound breed of dog should be brushed once per week and should only be bathed when necessary. The coat can be kept clean and tidy by wiping them down with a damp cloth. Ears should be cleaned on a regular basis and nails should be kept short.
Origin: 
The Mahratta Greyhound was developed in India.
