Dog

Pronunciation:
lah-be
Breed Description:

The Labbe breed of dog is a medium sized breed of dog that is the result of crossing the Labrador Retreiver with the Beagle. The body is lower to the ground and is usually longer than the dog is tall. They have a long tail that tapers into a point and a straight back with only moderate sloping from the shoulders to the rump.  The head is wide with pendulous ears and a narrower muzzle. The coat is very typical of the Beagle parent so it is short and smooth, however, there is usually an undercoat, which gives water and weather protection.  The colors of the Labbe can be any of the traditional Beagle colors as well as chocolate, black and yellow.  They can also be bi-colored or tri-colored.

Temperament:
The Labbe breed of dog is a friendly breed of dogs that tend to get along with everyone including other household pets. They are excellent with children and tend to approach life in an easy going manner. They can be easy to train and are a very active dog that is excellent for someone who likes to get out.
Height:
A Labbe is usually 14 to 20 inches with most Labbes averaging out at 16 inches.
Weight:
The average weight of a Labbe is 20 to 40 pounds.
Health Problems:
The Labbe breed of dog has no known health problems. Epilepsy and eye problems are seen in both parent breeds so they may be present in a Labbe puppy.
Living Conditions:
The Labbe breed of dog is than Labrador Retrievers, but they are not the ideal pet for apartments. They do have a lot of energy and if they take after their Beagle parent, they can be prone to excessive barking, which is very disruptive to neighbors.
Exercise:
The Labbe breed of dog is an active breed that needs to have time both on and off the leash to run and exercise. Tehy do very well in dog sports and this will provide them with the outlet that they need to expel their energy. If they don't recieve about 30 to 60 minutes of exercise every day, they can become destructive.
Life Expectancy:
10 to 15 years
Grooming:
The Labbe breed of dog is very easy to groom and only requires weekly brushing. They should only be bathed when it is necessary, usually once or twice a year. Special care should be taken with the ears since ear infections can be a common problem.
Origin:
The Labbe breed of dog is a designer `hybrid`breed that has become popular over the last decade or so. There is no actual origin for the breed and if you are interested in learning more about the Labbe, it is important to read up on both the Beagle and the Labrador Retriever.
