Breed Description: 

The Korat breed of cats are a slate blue-grey shorthair domestic cats. They have a small to medium build with semi-cobby bodies. The Korat breed of cats are surprisingly heavy for their size. Of course they are as intelligent as they look, but these cats tend to be shy, soft-voiced as well as quite playful. The Korat will form a very good bond with their owners and make wonderful pets as well as being beautiful. The Korat breed of cats have several distinguishing characteristics. Clearly the first is their head, which can be described as "heart-shaped". The Korat breed of cats are known for their incredibly large green eyes. This is one of a few breeds that have only one color.

Temperament: 
The Korat breed of cats are gentle pets, these cats move softly and cautiously. The Korat breed of cats, dislikes sudden, loud, or harsh noises. They will form exceptionally strong bonds with their owners. Of course these cats respond graciously and warmly to cuddling.
Weight: 
The Korat breed of cat has a small to medium build, with a low percentage of body fat.
Living Conditions: 
They will mix well with other cats and love to be in pairs. It is said that Korat will tend to thrive in most environments.
Grooming: 
Their hair does not float off when they are being stroked and petted, so many people with an allergy to cat hair find their proximity tolerable. Light brushing weekly is fantastic.
Origin: 
The Korat breed of cat is one of the oldest stable cat breeds. This breed originating in Thailand and is named after the Nakhon Ratchasima province. Known as Si-Sawat in Thailand which means "Color of the Sawat Seed". They are known as the "Good Luck Cat" and were not sold, but only given as gifts. They first appeared in America in the 1950s and arrived in Britain from there in 1972. Jean Johnson introduced Korats to the US in 1959. She had lived in Thailand, where she encountered the breed. Her first pair were named Nara (male) and Dara (female). The Korat was introduced to the UK by Miss Betty Munford of The High Street, Hungerford. Betty was affectionately known as the Cat Lady of Hungerford. Betty died in June 2009.
