Horse

Breed Description:

The Kisber Felver breed of horse originated in Hungary more than a century ago. The Kisber Felver horse was developed as part of a dedicated and rigorous breeding program. The Kisber Stud originally bred Thoroughbreds for the horse racing and eventing industry, but later turned to creating a half-breed horse that embodied the spirit and athleticism of the Thoroughbred with a larger stature and less nervous personality. The Kisber Felver was the result of this effort, and the breed has since become one of the most successful and popular horses in the world. Despite this claim, the Kisber Felver is an exceptionally rare horse, with less than a couple thousand of the breed remaining worldwide. The Kisber Felver breed of horse is a muscular and refined animal that features an intelligent expression, alert ears, and a refined profile. The shoulders slope downward to a deep and powerful chest. The back is medium to long and the ribs are well sprung. The legs are straight and situated squarely underneath the animal, and the joints are small but well-formed. The Kisber Felver breed of horse is usually bay or chestnut in color, although any solid color is acceptable for registration purposes.

Temperament:
The Kisber Felver breed of horse was developed to be an all-purpose horse that could perform well doing any task or event, and still possess a willing and docile personality. The Kisber Felver horse is very easy to train and is nearly always eager to please its handlers and trainers. The breed is highly intelligent and can understand a wide variety of commands, and is incredibly successful in the sports and events the breed is typically put to. The Kisber Felver breed of horse does have a significant amount of Thoroughbred blood in it, so if left to its own devices the breed may become herd-protective/aggressive, or may be nervous in new situations. While this is only rarely an issue with the Kisber Felver, careful and responsible training can eliminate these tendencies.
Height:
15.2 hh to 17 hh
Health Problems:
There are no known health issues that affect the Kisber Felver breed of horse. Overall the horse is hardy and is an easy keeper. However, due to the fact that the Thoroughbred was used extensively in developing the Kisber, diseases and conditions that typically affect the Thoroughbred should be watched for in the Kisber. Thoroughbreds are known to have joint and other orthopedic problems, pulmonary issues and deficiencies, and SCID, which is a serious illness of the immune system. Careful breeding and vetting prior to purchase will help to eliminate this concern.
Origin:
The Kisber Stud in Hungary was once a world-famous stud that produced Thoroughbreds. These Thoroughbreds were used all over the world in some of the most intense horse races and events of the time, and Thoroughbreds produced at the stud often performed exceptionally well. However, at the end of the nineteenth century, a demand began to develop for a horse that was as athletic as the Thoroughbred, but of larger stature and with a more willing personality. A highly selective breeding program was begun, and thus the Kisber Felver was born. Today the breed is exceedingly rare, and efforts have been underway for some time to protect the breed and preserve its superior bloodlines.
