Horse

Breed Description:

The Kinsky breed of horse is an extraordinarily versatile and stunning horse breed that has its origins in the old Czech Republic. The Kinsky is especially known throughout Europe as an excellent and versatile breed, and has been used and performed well in a wide variety of events and disciplines. The Kinsky is easily recognized by its lustrous and metallic coat that is typically gold or a shade of gold or crème. However, other colors are acceptable, such as bay, black, or chestnut. As there is a great deal of Thoroughbred blood in the Kinsky, the breed is amazingly agile and athletic. The Kinsky breed of horse has very pronounced withers that are not proportionate with its sloping rump and rear quarters. The legs are straight and solid, of good bone, and terminate in well-formed and hard hooves. The Kinsky horse has a refined head, medium neck, and well-muscled chest and shoulders.

Temperament:
The Kinsky breed of horse is especially noted as being devoted to humans, and exhibits a great deal of curiosity of human actions and customs. The Kinsky is exceptionally athletic, and can be put to a number of good uses, including as a saddle horse, trail horse, military or police mount, and can also be used in eventing, jumping, fox hunting, and equine-related sports. The Kinsky takes readily to training and shows a strong desire to please its handlers. Intelligent and even-tempered, the Kinsky makes a great family pet and a hard worker for any application, and is not easily frightened or made nervous.
Height:
15.2 hh to 17 hh
Health Problems:
The Kinsky breed of horse is a hardy animal and exhibits few health issues. However, due to the high level of Thoroughbred blood that was used in the development of the Kinsky, care should be taken to breed out or treat diseases and ailments that are common to the Thoroughbred. Some of these issues may include orthopedic problems- especially fractures and issues with joints, pulmonary issues, and fertility issues in mares.
Origin:
The Kinsky breed of horse has been an established breed for about 200 years. Originally bred by the Kinsky family, the Kinsky has enjoyed a high status as Europe’s most popular horse at various times throughout the last two centuries. The Kinsky has won a number of prestigious worldwide horse events, including the Grand National and many other types of horse races. Today the Kinsky breed of horse is considered one of the rarest breeds in the world, with some estimates placing their total numbers at less than one thousand. Thankfully, the Czech government has initiated efforts to preserve and further the breed under strict regulation.
