Breed Description: 

The Kerry Beagle breed of dog is a medium sized breed of dog that should be athletic and sturdy in appearance. They should have a level top line and should have a long tail. They should have a broad head and should have long ears that hang down the side of the head.

The coat of the Kerry Beagle should be short and dense. It can be black and tan, tan, blue mottled, white and tan, or black in color, however, the most common coat color is black and tan.

Temperament: 
The Kerry Beagle breed of dog is a hard working breed that thrives when they have something to do. They can be quite active, however, if they are exercised properly, they can be a true joy to be around. They are usually very good with children of all ages and can be a wonderful companion for a family. They are very loyal to their family and they generally get along well with other dogs and pets.
Height: 
The average height for the Kerry Beagle is between 22 to 24 inches.
Weight: 
Weight should be in proportion to height, however, they are usually about 60 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Kerry Beagle breed of dog is considered to be a hardy breed of dog with few known health problems.
Living Conditions: 
The Kerry Beagle breed of dog is not recommended for apartments. They are an active breed and need a yard to exercise in. In addition, this breed may not be recommended for urban settings since they can be quite vocal.
Exercise: 
The Kerry Beagle breed of dog is an active breed that needs at least 60 minutes of exercise each day. They love being out and working so it is important to offer them a variety of activities.

10 to 14 years
Grooming: 
The Kerry Beagle breed of dog should be brushed once per week to remove any dead hair but outside of that, they are a very easy dog to groom. Special care should be given to the ears, since they can be prone to ear infections and the hair under the ears and around the feet should be trimmed on a regular basis. Baths should only be given when it is absolutely necessary and the breed can go several months between baths.
Origin: 
The Kerry Beagle breed of dog was developed in Ireland and is believed to be one of the oldest breeds of Irish hounds. The breed can be traced back as far as 1794 and is believed to have been developed from the Old South Cree Hound. They were originally used for hunting both large and small prey, however, today they are primarily used for hunting hares. The breed was close to extinction, however, efforts to restore it was undertaken and the Braque de l'Ariege was added to the breed to save it from extinction. The breed is considered to be a very rare breed.
