Breed Description: 

The Jack-Rat Terrier breed of dog was developed by crossing the Jack Russel Terrier with the Rat Terrier to produce a dog that ranges in size from toy sized to medium. The breed is very athletic with long legs and apparent muscles. They should be slightly longer than tall and tend to have the appearance of a dog with a large amount of energy and stamina. The tail is medium in length and is often docked. 

The coat of the Jack-Rat Terrier is short and smooth and it should lie flat against the dog.  They can be found in primarily white coats with markings of either black, tan,brown, red, or blue but you can also find them in solid colors such as chocolate, red, black, sables or in brindles or tri-spotted colors.

Temperament: 
The Jack-Rat Terrier breed of dog is well-known for their intelligence and their tenacity. This is an alert breed that is not afraid to pursue adventure. They are usually very loyal to their family and offer a large well of affection but they thrive when they are on the go. They can be very funny to watch and generally love having a good time playing. They are patient with children and make excellent family dogs. They usually love other dogs but they have a strong prey drive and are not recommended for homes with small pets.
Height: 
The Jack-Rat Terrier can be found in three sizes and these are: Standard: 14 to 23 inches, Midsize: 10 to 14 inches, Miniature: 8 to 10 inches
Weight: 
The Jack-Rat Terrier can be found in three sizes and these are: Standard: 18 to 25 pounds, Midsize: 10 to 17 pounds, Miniature: 6 to 10 pounds
Health Problems: 
The Jack-Rat Terrier breed of dog has no known health problems, however, it is important to read up on both the Rat Terrier and the Jack Russell Terrier to be aware of the health problems your puppy may be at risk for.
Living Conditions: 
The Jack-Rat Terrier breed of dog can do okay in apartments but the ideal is a home with a large, fenced yard. It is important that the yard be fenced since the Jack-Rat Terrier enjoys chasing small backyard animals and will chase them into traffic.
Exercise: 
The Jack-Rat Terrier breed of dog is very active and requires between 30 and 45 minutes of exercise each day. They do need both on lead and off lead exercise and they should always be kept on lead when they are not in a secure area to prevent them from running away.
Life Expectancy: 
14 to 18 years
Grooming: 
The Jack-Rat Terrier breed of dog does not require a lot of maintanence and can be kept tidy with only one brushing each week. In addition, the Jack-Rat Terrier only requires a bath every few months and can do with only one or two baths a year. In between baths, the Jack-Rat Terrier can be kept clean with a damp cloth.
Origin: 
The Jack-Rat Terrier breed of dog is a designer `hybrid`breed that has become popular over the last decade or so.
