Homeopathy for Cats

Homeopathy is a healing method that encourages the body to heal on its own by providing strength to the natural defenses of the body. Homeopathy is successful in effectively healing both animals and human beings. It is particularly helpful in first aid use for cats in minor or major ailments. This can, sometimes, limit visits to the vet. Allopathic medicine views disease symptoms as problems that need to be fixed or suppressed. On the other hand, homeopathy, views the exact symptoms as the attempt of the body to heal itself. A homeopathic practitioner would not suppress such symptoms, but would instead, select a remedy, which would create similar symptoms in an animal that is already healthy. The foundation of homeopathy hinges on the fact that ‘like heals like.’ Every symptom in homeopathy is believed to be important; not only the symptoms that are connected to a specific condition.

There’s a huge difference linked to lessening the symptoms without actually offering a cure (palliation), suppressing the symptoms (suppression), and essentially providing a remedy for the basic problem. Symptoms only reveal how the body responds to the illness. Letting the symptoms disappear by using medication is not similar to finding a complete cure for the disease. Palliation means that as soon as you stop taking the medication, the symptoms can reappear. In fact, there are times when you will have additional symptoms because the real problem has not been handled appropriately. Suppressing the symptoms may make it go away, but you run the risk of it returning and possible bringing other symptoms with it. One particular example, is giving your cat anti-inflammatory medicine for a skin infection. It may clear up the skin infection, but afterward, it may be developed into an infectious bowel illness. Conventional medicine would not see the relation between these two issues, but homeopathy medicine recognize that the initial infection was buried deep into the body of the cat by suppression of the initial symptoms, but did not provide a cure for the disease.

With traditional medicine, it is believed that the symptoms are caused by the illness. In comparison, homeopathy believes that the symptoms are a natural reaction to fight against the illness. Homeopathy will then stimulate the symptoms as opposed to suppressing them. Because the principle of homeopathy treats illnesses based on the “like heals like” concept, this means that it uses a substance that creates the same symptoms in a healthy person as it does to the ill person. It can be said that a cat owner or anyone sharing the same space with a cat will find out about holistic measures of treatment sooner rather than later. Of course, holistic medicine such as homeopathy, is not meant as a replacement for traditional vet care or allopathic medicine, but is used in conjunction; to make sure that the cat remains in most favorable health. Other symptoms may show up while the cat is receiving homeopathic care. However, once these symptoms are cured, the cat will be healthy and active again.
