Breed Description:
The Havana Brown breed of cat is noted for its warm, chocolate brown color that reminded an early breeder of a Havana cigar. The Havana Brown breed did not, however, come from Cuba. Brown cats resembling this breed were in Britain as early as the 1890s, but the breed development did not begin in earnest until sixty years later. They were introduced to the United States in the mid-1950s. It was first accepted by GCCF in 1958 as the Chestnut Foreign Shorthair.
Temperament:
The Havana is a very outgoing breed that loves following its people around. Havanas Brown cats crave have human interaction in order to be completely content. As well they crave attention and are not content unless they are underfoot or by your side. Havanas frequently nudge their owners with an outstretched paw looking for attention.
Weight:
The havana Brown breed of cat can weigh eight to ten pounds.
Grooming:
Since Havanas are a shorthair breed, routine grooming is kept to a minimum.
Origin:
The Havana Brown breed of cat is said to have originated in Great Britain in the early 1950s.
