Dog
French Bulldog Champions
The French Bulldog breed of dog is a small, muscular bulldog with heavy bones, erect bat ears, and a big, kind heart. He is playful and sociable, relatively active, but not rambunctious. His short, dense coat can be brindle, fawn, white or brindle and white. The head of the French Bulldog breed of dog is large and square. He has dark round eyes, set wide apart and low in the skull, as far from his ears as possible. His distinctive bat ears are broad at the base and elongated, with a round top, set high on the head but not too close together. The top of the skull is flat between the ears; the forehead is not flat but slightly rounded. His muzzle is broad, deep and well laid back, with well developed muscles in his cheeks. The stop is so well defined that it causes a hollow groove between the eyes, with heavy wrinkles forming a soft roll over the extremely short, black nose. His flews are likewise black, are thick and broad, and hang over the lower jaw at the sides, meeting the underlip in front and covering the teeth. His teeth are not seen when he closes his mouth. His underjaw is deep, square, broad, undershot and well turned up. The neck of the French Bulldog is thick and well arched with loose skin at the throat. The back is a roach back, strong and short. He is broad at the shoulders and narrow at the loins. The body is short and well rounded. The chest is broad and deep. His tail can be either straight or screwed (but not curly), but is always short, low and tapes to a fine tip. The French Bulldog's legs are short, stout, straight, muscular and set wide apart. His moderately sized feet are compact, with compact, split toes and short stubby nails. Hind legs are longer than the forelegs, so as to elevate the loins above the shoulders. The coat of the French Bulldog breed of dog is somewhat fine, short and smooth. His skin is soft and loose, especially around the head and shoulders, forming wrinkles. He may be brindle, fawn, white or brindle and white. In fact, all colors are acceptable except for solid black, mouse, liver, black and tan, black and white, and white with black. The correct gait for the French Bulldog breed of dog is double tracking with reach and drive. His action should always be unrestrained, free and vigorous.
