Breed Description: 

The Estonian Hound breed of dog is a medium sized breed that should be athletic in appearance and have a sturdy build. They should be slightly longer than they are tall and should have a level topline. The head should be broad and well formed and they should have medium length ears that hang down the side of the head. The tail should be long and tapered.

The coat of the Estonian Hound should be short and dense. It should have a rough texture and a natural shine to it. The breed should be tri-color with black, tan and white, however, the main emphasis for color is white on the tip of the tail.

Temperament: 
The Estonian Hound breed of dog is an intelligent and affectionate breed that is known for being very happy and cheerful. They are generally a vary calm breed that has a balanced temperament. They can be stubborn at time and usually need a firm owner who can give them consistent rules. This hunting breed thrives when they are with their owners and can usually do well with positive reinforcement training. They are usually good with other dogs and can learn to adapt to other pets if they are socialized and raised with them. The breed can do well with children.

The average height for the Estonian Hound is between 17 to 21 inches.
Weight: 
The average weight for the Estonian Hound is between 33 to 44 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Estonian Hound breed of dog is considered to be a hardy breed of dog with few known health problems.
Living Conditions: 
The Estonian Hound breed of dog is not recommended for apartments. While they are fairly active indoors, they do much better in a home with a large yard or acreage.
Exercise: 
The Estonian Hound breed of dog is a very active breed and requires 45 to 60 minutes of exercise each day at the very minimal.

12 to 15 years
Grooming: 
The Estonian Hound breed of dog is a very easy breed to groom and they require little to no maintenance to keep their coats healthy. On average, you should expect to brush your dog on a weekly basis to remove dead hairs and dirt. A wipe down with a damp cloth will keep them clean and they should only be bathed when it is absolutely necessary. Ears should be cleaned on a regular basis and nails should be clipped once or twice a month.
Origin: 
The Estonian Hound breed of dog was developed in Estonia and is the result of crossign several different breeds iuncluding the Luzern Hound, the Swiss Hound, Beagle, Bern Hounds, the Finnish Hound, the English Foxhound and several other breeds from Poland and Russia. The result was a versatile hunting dog that has gained a fair amount of popularity in Estonia and the official breed club for the Estonia Hound is working on acceptance into the FCI for the breed.
