The East Bulgarian breed of horse is a light riding and draft horse. It is a warmblood breed that is well-suited to competitive sports ranging from dressage to eventing, and is also used for light draft work. Its movements are notably free. East Bulgarians have good conformation, with fine, straight-profiled heads on elegant, slightly arched and muscular necks. They have strong shoulders, prominent withers, full deep chests, and muscular but well-formed legs. The East Bulgarian breed of horse is typically chestnut, bay, or black.

The East Bulgarian breed of horse originated from Thoroughbred and English Halfbred crossed with Anglo-Arab, Arab, and Bulgarian native horses. Its early development began at the end of the 19th century at the Kabiuk stud farm near Shumen and at a stud farm in Bozhurishte near Sofia. The East Bulgarian breed of horse was officially recognized as a breed in 1951.
